T.Commercial Building Services delivered one of their most meaningful and technically demanding projects to date — the construction and fit-out of The Aviary sensory rooms at Monash Children's Hospital, one of Australia's leading paediatric healthcare facilities.
Designed specifically for children with high sensory needs, The Aviary rooms provide a safe, calming sanctuary within the hospital environment — spaces purpose-built to soothe, comfort and support some of the most vulnerable young patients in care. Every single element of the design and construction was considered through the lens of the children who would use these rooms.
T.Commercial managed the full fit-out of the sensory spaces, including padded wall and floor installations, full concealment of all hard corners and edges, and the careful installation of specialist sensory equipment and therapeutic accessories — including ambient LED water features, calming lighting elements and deep-pressure therapeutic seating designed to provide comfort and security for children in distress.
The construction environment presented extraordinary challenges. Located on a fully operational and heavily occupied paediatric ward, the build was carried out with the highest possible standards of care — strict noise minimisation protocols were observed at all times, dust suppression and containment were managed to clinical-grade standards, and full sanitisation of the worksite was maintained throughout the entire duration of the project.
